Calling all dairy farmers of the UK and Ireland, we want to hear your views about the future of indoor and pasture based systems in the UK and Ireland. There has been public controversy about dairying in recent years e.g. rapid dairy expansion in Ireland, total confinement systems in the UK. But little is known about farmers' views about the future of their industry. UK farmers - why do you choose the system you do and what are you views on the welfare and environmental aspects of indoor farming? Irish farmers - do you agree Ireland should stay a low cost pasture based system or is there room for high input systems, given the summer drought and forage shortage?
You can fill in this 10-15 minute survey here.
As a gesture of goodwill we will donate £2 (and equivalent in euros) for every survey completed to charities helping struggling farmers: the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) in England and Wales; the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RSABI); Rural Support in Northern Ireland; and the Mind our Farm Families phoneline in Ireland run by Pieta House and the IFA. We aim to raise £1500 for these charities in total.
